Ales Chyhir: “They beat like professionals”
Opposition activist Ales Chyhir, detained and beaten by militiamen at night, has had a trial in Babruisk today. Judge Natallya Charapukha remanded the case. Chyhir was discharged form custody.
Ales Chyhir is accused of “disorderly conduct and resistance to militia,” Radio Svaboda reports.
Ales Chyhir says he was beaten by militiamen in the militia department. “My hand, forearm and leg are aching. They stretched my neck, tortured me. Pulled my hair. When I fell down to they ground, they raised me up. Mayor Toustik ruled the violence, master sergeant Pasholkin helped him. They threaten to cut off my fingers. I was taken to an emergency station, but militiamen and doctors act together. An investigator gave me a referral to hospital for the injuries to be registered,” Ales told.
Danuta Chyhir doesn’t exclude her husband was detained preventively for the time while Alyaksandr Lukashenka will stay in Babruisk. Lukashenka is to visit Babruisk on 31 May to be present on the ice-hockey stadium opening ceremony.
Ales Chyhir was detained late at night by officers of the militia department of the Babruisk city executive committee. According to Ms Chyhir, her husband was beaten during the detention. Through the window she saw Ales lying unconscious on the floor in the militia department.
It is worthy to note that mayor Toustik took part in an attack on the Babruisk public center on 5 March.
