Another attempt to discredit EHU

“The European Humanitarian University is first of all the educational and not political project unlike other Belarusian institutions of higher education. It is free of ideological monitoring” is said in the appeal of the management of the university, which was after being closed in Belarus registered in Lithuania. The press service of the EHU remarks that last week the official Belarusian mass media “started another campaign of discrediting the European Humanitarian University”.

8 June a message “Political Brainwashing University” appeared on the news line of the Belarusian telegraph agency. The facts, which were not true in the opinion of the EHU management, were again broadcasted in the ”Radiofakt” program of the Belarusian radio 11 June. Moreover, the university administration became aware of forthcoming similar discrediting messages to appear in other Belarusian mass media”.

In the message, according to the university authorities, there were a number of deliberately distorted facts. For example, “ obviously false information on the reasons of the university closing down in Minsk, on the EHU status in Lithuania and its diplomas acknowledgement is given; the false assumption on training the activists of the radical political organizations is announced” .In the opinion of the university management the present stage of the “information war” against the EHU has been caused by the successfully started entrance campaign by the EHU and attempts of the Belarusian authorities to intimidate by all possible means the EHU applicants and their parents”, the BelaPAN reported.

By the resolution of the government of Lithuania of 22 February 2006 the EHU was officially registered as the Lithuanian university. The programs of the university were successfully examined by the National center for quality control and were also registered by the ministry for education and science of Lithuania. The diplomas of the EUH are acknowledge in Lithuania as well as in the European Union and annexes to the diplomas are compiled in compliance with the EU standards, the press service of the university remarks.

Presidents and rectors of the Harward, Columbian, Chicago universities and the London school of economics and the Massachusets technological institute are members of the International supporting Committee for the EHU.
