Authorities to combat internet on model of China

The Ministry of Information of Belarus stands for registration of Internet media. It was said by Liliya Ananich, first deputy minister of information. In her opinion, there’s a problem of “stream of misinformation from foreign sites.” “But there are practices used in China, which blocked the access to the sites on its territory,” Ananich thinks.

The official made this statement during the round table meeting hosted by “Belaruskaya Dumka” magazine, the materials of which are published in May, BelTA reports.

“The Ministry of Information stands for the legislative regulation of the operation of Internet media. Those of them, who would like to act as mass media (request information, distribute information, attend press conferences and so on) should be registered in accordance with the established procedure. The procedure should be defined either by the Law on Mass Media or a regulatory act of the government,” Lilia Ananich stressed.

In her opinion, there is a problem of stream of misinformation from foreign sites, which aims are destructive influence on the processes in Belarus. “There are practices used in China, which blocked the access to the sites on its territory. And certainly first of all quality growth of national web resources, operating for the benefit of the country, is necessary,” the first deputy Information minister thinks.

Speaking about Internet regulation, Liliya Ananich backed the initiative put forward by Dzmitry Zhuk, Director General of Belarusian news agency BelTA. The initiative suggests setting up an association of faithful owners and authors of websites in Belarus. “Among state regulation, there should exist decencies, dictated by corporative Internet community and observed by all owners and authors of websites,” she noted.
