Lyceum graduate left without diploma with honours for oppositional convictions

An activist of the Young Front Zmitser Sakalou, the best graduate of Polatsk Lyceum, has been deprived a diploma with honours for his political convictions.
After the trial for a protest with a banner “Freedom to political prisoners!” in the central square of the city, Polatsk Lyceum was visited by KGB officers, the press-service of the Young Front informs.
“Representatives of the KGB discussed me with the deputy headmaster on educational work, Svyatlana Baranouskaya. They wanted to receive general characteristics, asked about my conduct, progress, political opinions. After that the deputy headmaster was reproached for bringing up the young people in the wrong way,” Zmitser said.
Zmitser Sakalou is the top pupil in his group. Before the visit of the KGB men he was the only candidate for a diploma with honours. However, after the visit of the KGB officers the staff of the Lyceum decided not to come into conflict with the KGB and left the graduate the diploma with honours. At the same time, teachers recommended the pupil to keep out of such affairs until his education in the Lyceum finished.
