Organizer of rally on Kastrychnitskaya Square arrested again
Alyaksandr Makayew, an organizer of sole entrepreneurs’ December 10 unauthorized protest, was grabbed by police and brought to the Maskowski district police department on Monday afternoon, his second arrest in one day.
Mr. Makayew, Viktar Kryval and Alyaksandr Tsatsura, activists of an unregistered small business association called For Free Development of Enterprise who asked for permission to hold the protest on Kastrychnitskaya Square, were brought to a prosecutor’s office and warned against moving ahead with their plans for the rally at the venue.
The trio were released, but Mr. Makayew was arrested once again later in the day as it became clear that the organizers were not going to abandon their plans for the rally.
Viktar Ivashkevich, deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front, also was picked up by police on December 10. He told BelaPAN by phone that he had been nabbed on Chyrvonaya Street on suspicion of attending the unauthorized rally and brought to the Tsentralny district police department.
