Prosecutor demands to fine Young Front activists
The public prosecutor has demanded to fine Young Front activists Aleh Korban, Barys Haretski, Nasta Palazhanka and Zmitser Khvedaruk 500 basic units (15,500,000 Belarusian rubles, or $7,242) each. It is obvious that the regime has decided not to exacerbate the situation with the political persecution of young activists. As we have informed, the Young Front leader Zmitser Dashkevich had been sentenced to a year and a half of imprisonment in a minimum-security correctional labor facility.
The public prosecutor stated that the Young Front wants to seize political power in the country by mass street actions. The confirmation of that were transcripts of phone conversations, as well as audio recordings of the Young Front meetings held on September 29, 2006 and January 25, January 29, February 1, February 4, 2007.
. The criminal action against Zmitser Khvedaruk (Fedaruk), Barys Haretski, Aleh Korban, Alyaksei Yanusheuski and Nasta Palazhanka has been opened for activities on behalf of an unregistered organization on charges related Article 193-1 of the Criminal Code of Belarus.
Zmitser Khvedaruk in particular is charged with being the leader of the Young Front council of Pershamajski district of Minsk, Aleh Korban – with heading Partyzanski branch of the organization, Alyaksei Yanuhseuski – Zavodski district organization, Barys Haretski of being the press-secretary of the organization. Nasta Palazhanka is charged with being the head of the organizing committee.
All charged are based on printed materials confiscated during the searches or confiscated data carriers, in particular, on base units and hard disc drives.
